The Center for AIDS Research is a thriving board-approved center at UAB in support of multidisciplinary HIV research that is led by investigators at UAB and collaborating institutions. This position supports research studies addressing consequential questions in HIV prevention, care, and treatment in Alabama, the southeast US region, and nationally. We seek a researcher with expertise in data management and biostatistics to contribute to the design, implementation, and analysis of research data projects. Particular focus will be on the use of state-wide HIV testing and surveillance data. This position will work with the Alabama Department of Public Health to help build capacity among the ADPH staff with data cleaning and management of these datasets. In addition, this position will include data management, programming and production of data tables and statistical summaries that are used by CFAR investigators and collaborators and this position will be responsible for contributing to grant proposals, conference abstracts, manuscripts. There may be opportunities to present data at national and international meetings. The position demands understanding of research design, data management and statistical analysis, and achieving research milestones in a rapidly changing environment. The position also requires good interpersonal skills and the ability to work within a team context, as well as the ability to exercise independent judgment and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Travel to Montgomery to work with ADPH collaborators approximately once/month is required.

General Responsibilities
- Responsible for the design, implementation, and interpretation of research data projects.
- Directs others in the analysis of large data sets, instrument design, and data management.
- Acts as a technical consultant to faculty members developing funded proposals.
Data management:
- Develop and maintain databases that may include clinical and laboratory data
- Design and implement data quality control measures
- Advise on appropriate use of large databases, including key variables and variable definitions
- Provide timely and accurate responses to concept submissions, data queries, and requests from multiple investigators
- Provide documented study datasets for analysis
- Maintain a proactive and forward-thinking approach to data management and report generation
- Work closely with investigators, CFAR team, and external partners to understand project goals and execute reporting and queries to meet timelines
- Data analysis
- Prepare tabular, graphical, and statistical summary reports in support of investigator research and publication
- Prepare statistical analysis plans in conjunction with CFAR investigators Assist in writing scientific manuscripts and review of statistical methods and outcomes for correctness and completeness
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Master's degree or higher in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, other areas of Public Health, Math, or other related fields
- Significant experience working in SAS statistical package (a skills test will be required of meritorious applicants)
- Written and verbal communications skills across different types of scientists

- Ability to work in a team environment
- Leadership skills
Education
- Master's degree in a related field and five (5) years of related experience required.
- Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
