University Instructors is seeking talented people from diverse backgrounds to lead, change, and inspire students in the Manassas area for SY 25-26.
In this role you will serve students in special education programs as a classroom teacher.
In this role, you’ll:
- Provide specially designed instruction to students with disabilities.
- Modify and adapt lesson plans for reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science to accommodate students with disabilities in a classroom, utilizing course of study adopted by the appropriate authorities.
- Translate the lessons into learning experiences to best utilize instructional time.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
- Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student progress and to interpret the school program.
- Identify students’ needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Develop, implement, supervise, and evaluate Individual Education Programs and instructional classroom programs.
- Review student files to determine appropriate programming.
- Supervise students' in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.
- Participate in curriculum development programs as required.
As a successful applicant, you must have a passion for helping students succeed. Additionally, you will need to have the following:
- Three years of experience leading K-12 instruction.
- Will work towards successfully obtaining a provisional Special Education License from the state of Virginia
- Have previously completed a foundations of special education course or be willing to take the course as a term of their employment.
- Be local to the area.
- Have excellent oral and written communication skills.
Education and Work Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in special education or a related field.
- Eligible for or in possession of appropriate Virginia teacher licensure with endorsement in Special Education General Curriculum K-12.
- Demonstrate considerable knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of the English language in written and oral contents.
Work Conditions
- Above-average amount of walking, bending, standing stooping, lifting.
- Work involves exposure to normal everyday hazards encountered in a school.
- Work is performed in a classroom and involves no unusual demands.
$32 per hour | Monday–Friday | Daytime schedule
