We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accounting Specialist to join our team. This entry-level role offers the perfect opportunity for recent graduates or candidates looking to start a career in accounting and grow within a supportive and thriving company.
This position requires maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and assisting in the preparation of financial reports, understanding of accounting principles, while operating within University Credit Union guidelines and assisting other members of the Account Department. Accounting Specialist reports to the VP of Accounting.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
· Perform daily accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations.
· Prepare and maintain financial records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and regulations.
· Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
· Review and analyze financial transactions to identify discrepancies and provide solutions.
· Assist in the preparation of financial statements, reports, and budgets.
· Handle invoices, payments, and collections efficiently.
· Collaborate with internal teams to ensure accurate financial reporting and streamline processes.
· Maintain accurate filing systems for all financial documents.
· Provide support for audits and internal controls.
· Ensure timely and accurate tax filings and compliance with relevant regulations.
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
· High school diploma or equivalent (Required)
· 6 Months to 2 years of similar or related work experience in a financial institution environment.
· College degree preferred (not required) or currently enrolled in degree program. (Preferably in Business, Accounting, Finance or related field.)
· 2 Years of Credit Union experience. (Preferred)
· Knowledge of financial transactions (i.e., deposits, withdrawals, check cashing, daily reconcilement, share draft processing, and direct payroll processing).
· Knowledge of ACH guidelines and timeframes as prescribed by NACHA.
· Knowledge of Federal Reserve guidelines and timeframes.
· Ability to articulate clearly both verbally and in writing.
· Must possess a friendly/pleasant attitude and demeanor when answering questions, explaining and enforcing University Credit Union policies and providing service to members and co-workers.
· Ability to handle detailed work.
· Knowledge of Excel spreadsheet software and word processing software.
· Computer knowledge and aptitude for accurate data entry.
