Club Accountant – University Club of Tampa
Position Summary
The Club Accountant oversees the activities of the accounting functions, as well as the financial operations for all profit centers. The Club Accountant is also responsible for internal controls, reporting systems and processes, as well as ensuring all accounting policies, procedures and safeguards are followed throughout the organization. The candidate for this position must have the ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking team environment without comprising quality of output and possess a “people first” mentality.

Classification: Full Time, Exempt
Operational Responsibilities
- Oversee the activities of the accounting functions, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of accounts payables, petty cash, cash control, and core payroll processing and company payroll tax compliance.
- Oversee accurate and timely management of all accounts receivable aging components, including billings, cash receipts, applications, etc.; quarter and year-end payroll closing, including federal and state reports.
- Oversee financial operations for all profit centers and ensure accuracy of all financial statements, member invoices, special event/function invoicing and departmental revenues, variances and entries prior to release.
- Coordinate and oversee periodic physical inventory counts, investigate variances, and prepare journal entries for inventory adjustment.
- Maintain depreciation schedules in the fixed asset software in accordance with the Club’s capitalization policy. Prepare monthly journal entries to record depreciation expense, asset acquisitions and dispositions.
- Produce timely and accurate dissemination of financial management reports, including internal and external monthly financial statements, annual audits, and annual budgets.
- Participate in continual improvement of the reporting process through education of department managers on financial issues impacting their operations.
- Develop and implement processes and systems which ensure quality control, accuracy of reporting all financial information.
- Comply with auditors to ensure procedures are consistent with club policies as well as in accordance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws.
The Successful Candidate
- Has a thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Has a proven track record of working independently, as well as within a team environment.
- Has demonstrated strong organization skills, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt to various situations and needs quickly.
- Has strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. He or she has the ability to communicate effectively in a collaborative work environment.
- Has a demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments, is detail-oriented, and meets deadlines.
- Has thorough knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Point-of-Sale (POS) front and back of house systems. UClub uses ClubSystems/Jonas
- Relevant experience as a controller, financial manager, or CPA
- Experience in private clubs or high-end hospitality preferred
- IT & software knowledge strongly desired
- Experience working with Clubsystems/Jonas Club Management software a plus
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time.
- Partial remote schedule available
- This position requires use of close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration preferred
