Job Description
The Marketing & eCommerce Manager position is a full-time hourly position reporting to the Chief Operating Officer.
Position Summary
The Marketing & eCommerce Manager is responsible for University Book Store’s brand presence and digital commerce performance across all customer-facing channels. This role combines strategy with hands-on execution, overseeing marketing initiatives that drive traffic, engagement, and revenue while maintaining a consistent and authentic brand voice. This role also supports event-based marketing and campus partnerships that strengthen University Book Store’s connections to students, alumni, and the broader community.
You will manage a small marketing team, including student interns, and work closely with Book Store leadership and buyers to help align marketing efforts with business goals and product strategy.
This is an onsite role based in our U-District location. This role offers significant opportunity for growth and expanded leadership responsibility for a strong candidate who demonstrates initiative, strategic thinking, and strong execution.
Responsibilities:
Digital Marketing & eCommerce
- Manage email marketing strategy in Klaviyo, including campaigns, automated flows, and segmentation.
- Lead social media strategy to drive follower growth, engagement, and in-store traffic through targeted campaigns.
- Optimize paid advertising across Google and Meta platforms.
- Maintain website content and merchandising in Shopify, including collections, product presentation, graphics, and SEO.
- Manage promotions and discounting across web and POS platforms, ensuring accurate setup, targeting, and performance tracking.
Analytics & Performance
- Monitor and analyze performance across Google Analytics 4, Meta Business Manager, and email platforms.
- Translate data into actionable insight to improve campaign effectiveness, customer engagement, and conversion.
Content & Brand Execution
- Oversee content across email, social media, website, and in-store channels to ensure consistency with brand voice and guidelines.
- Create and direct marketing assets including digital content, signage, and promotional materials using Adobe tools and Canva.
- Lead photoshoots, including creative direction, model coordination, and execution.
Team Leadership
- Hire, train and supervise student interns and marketing associates to ensure accuracy and brand alignment.
- Provide mentorship and structure to support professional development and skill-building in digital and in-store marketing, content creation, and brand execution.
Collaboration & Planning
- Partner with leadership and buyers to align marketing campaigns with strategy and buyer priorities.
- Develop marketing plans, campaign briefs, and performance reports, including monthly and board-level summaries.
- Coordinate and expand partnerships with campus and community organizations.
- Plan, coordinate, support, and attend marketing-related events including shopping nights, Grad Fair, campus promotions, and community collaborations.
Experience and Skills
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Marketing, Business, or related field.
- Professional experience in marketing, with a focus on digital and eCommerce.
- Experience managing social media content and calendars.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite or Canva.
- Excellent copywriting, editing, and communication skills.
- Photography and basic photo editing skills.
- Experience managing multiple projects and deadlines.
- Team leadership.
Preferred
- Experience with Shopify or similar eCommerce platforms.
- Experience with email marketing platforms such as Klaviyo.
- Experience with digital advertising, SEO/SEM, and analytics.
- Familiarity with the University of Washington community, including campus culture, student organizations, and key university partners.
- Multi-lingual a plus.
Wage and Benefits
The wage for this position is $32.50/ hour. Benefits include: subsidized ORCA pass, merchandise discount, and holiday pay. Additional benefits once hours requirements are met include medical, dental and disability insurance; vacation, and sick pay; and 401k retirement plan with employer match.
