The University at Albany, State University of New York, a growing, diverse, Research-1 university seeks an experienced, strategic leader to serve as the Executive Director of University Auxiliary Services at Albany, Inc. (UAS). A 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, UAS, invests in and provides services to enhance the educational, research, learning and living experiences of the University at Albany community.

The Executive Director will prioritize student success, diversity and inclusion, internationalization, engagement and service and sustainability in securing and managing local and national contracts for dining services, bookstore, and related services with a team of 12 dedicated professionals and a budget of $41 million. The Executive Director is also responsible for contracts related to financial custodial and/or payroll and benefits administrative services along with management of the Corporation and overseeing related facility renovations, construction projects, and equipment purchasing.

The successful candidate will provide long-range strategic planning for financial, operational, marketing and facility development and foster a culture of excellence through measurable goals and assessment.

While UAS offices are located at University at Albany, positions are neither a New York State nor a SUNY position. Supervisory Responsibilities: All University Auxiliary Services, Inc. employees report up to the Executive Director, including four direct reports.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership and day-to-day management activities of UAS in alignment with Institutional Priorities and within the operational limits of the Corporation.
  • Provide supervision, coaching, and empowerment strategies to foster a spirit of teamwork
  • Focus on student and community health and well-being, diversity, equity and inclusion, customer satisfaction, food diversity, and sustainability
  • Manage local and national contracts including but not limited to dining services, bookstore, ID Card services, vending, banking, student moving and storage, laundry, microfridge rentals, and financial custodial and payroll and benefits administrative services.
  • Serve on the Board and all its committees, facilitating consistent and appropriate two-way communication between the Board and Corporation, and implementing all related decisions
  • Provide long-range strategic planning for financial, operational, marketing, and facility development for the Corporation.
  • Develop and maintain relationships and communication channels with UAlbany departments, educational institutions, professional organizations, and government agencies to ensure program compliance and identify continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Identify and communicate investment, new business, and program improvement opportunities consistent with the UAS mission to Board and contract partners.
  • Oversee the financial well-being of UAS including the preparation of an annual budget for adoption.
  • Coordinate and facilitate renovation and construction projects with University at Albany facilities staff, architects, engineers, consultants, and contractors
  • Anticipate potential service challenges and proactively strategize solutions while also addressing current customer concerns
  • Stay abreast of University regulations and protocols and local, state, and national new developments and regulations related to nutrition, health, dining operations, vending services, equipment, technology, management principles, related technology, and customer trends.

Job Requirements:


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least ten years of progressively responsible operational financial and human resource management experience
  • At least five years of experience in contract management, including the creation and issuance of requests for proposals, evaluation of proposals received, contract negotiations, and administration
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 products

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree
  • Experience in a higher education environment
  • Experience in the nonprofit or government sectors
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors in a nonprofit organization
  • Experience in commercial retail or dining operations
  • Experience with other college or university auxiliary service corporations

Physical and Other Requirements:

  • Occasional lifting of up to 25lbs
  • Extended periods of walking and standing
  • Extended periods of computer use
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule (early mornings, late nights, weekends and holidays on a rotating basis)
  • Provide or use reliable transportation

Additional Information:


Salary range: $170,000-175,000
