Overview

An Aviation Maintenance Instructor is responsible for the effective delivery of the Aviation Maintenance curriculum in the classroom and laboratory setting.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct classroom and shop training utilizing proper instructional techniques, practices and following approved curriculum
  • Utilize equipment and training aids in daily lessons
  • Order required supplies and tools through Hangar Manager
  • Report all damaged or missing instructional equipment to Hangar Manager
  • Ensure that classroom and shop areas are kept clean and orderly
  • Store all unused training aids and supplies in approved areas
  • Maintain student attendance and grade rosters
  • Prepare class lessons and test in a timely manner
  • Design training aids and mock-ups in area of instructor expertise
  • Administer tests and make-up tests per MIAT procedures manual
  • Conduct make-up classes as scheduled
  • Ensure that students follow all established policies, procedures and safety practices
  • Ensure that a professional training environment is maintained in the classroom and shop areas at all times
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • MMI Phoenix, MMI Orlando 

    • High School Diploma/GED & 5 years hands on technician experience in last 10 years; 
    • OR Certificate & 4 years hands on technician experience in last 10 years;OR MMI Graduate/Associates/Bachelors & 3 years hands on technician experience in last 10 years

     

    Avondale, Exton, Lisle, Long Beach, Rancho Cucamonga, Sacramento

    • High school diploma or equivalent 
    • 5 years practical work experience (excludes teaching)
    • Aviation Maintenance experience required within the past 10 years. 
    • Or certificate/diploma Plus 4 years practical work experience (excludes teaching)
    • Or associates/bachelors Plus 3 years practical work experience (excludes teaching)
    • Teaching experience a plus
    • FAA Airframe and Powerplant license is a plus
    • Inspection Authorization (IA) is a plus
    • Federal Communication Commission (FCC) License is a plus 

 

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to teach students of various ages and diverse backgrounds
  • Able to work productively and communicate effectively with students and new employees
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Must be able to deal responsibly with confidential information
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word and Excel required)
  • Must be personable, energetic and have a customer service orientation
  • Must be self-motivated
  • Must be able to work independently or with a team

 

Performance Standards

  • Instructors will be evaluated on their ability to promote and implement the objective of the school
  • Assure that the curriculum is adhered to, and delivered with motivation and enthusiasm
  • Proper monitoring of all equipment, supplies and tools to ensure the safety of the students
  • Ensure that student morale is maintained at a high level
  • Maintain control of the classroom and handles student day to day issues
  • Maintain a good standing on student and lab equipment evaluations
  • All internal and external reports and forms have been accurately completed and submitted in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain an annual average of 95% student retention
  • Instructor evaluations will be done twice a year by management
  • Instructor evaluations will be done by students every other block or quarter

Working Conditions

  • Majority of time spent in education environment
  • Work will consist of an 8-hour day, 75% teaching and 25% administration
  • Appropriate safety measures must be followed
  • Exposure to chemicals that are standard to industry
