POSITION TITLE:

  • Tech I, SPFX & Pyro

JOB SUMMARY:

Provides the highly skilled, discipline specific technical skills needed for the successful operation and maintenance of the Pyrotechnics/Special Effects (SPFX) elements for assigned Entertainment venues, projects, or events, to ensure highest levels of show quality and a positive guest experience.
Responsible for the appropriate implementation of all policies and procedures, including high-risk, for assigned area and team, as defined by statutory and regulatory authorities for federal, state, and local authorities, including NFPA and Universal Orlando, governing the safe operation of all technical equipment.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures installation of pyrotechnic & special effects equipment per managements direction. Assesses Hazards associated with pyrotechnic and special effects equipment or systems. Determines mitigations with the team and ensures implementation, completing all documentation and communicates with leadership.
  • Perform diagnostics and repairs of various pyrotechnic & special effects equipment that require more extensive knowledge and skills.
  • Uses expertise to diagnose system failures and provide immediate and long-term corrective actions. Involves researching various electronically controlled pyrotechnic & special effect equipment. Completes documentation to complete the repair process.
  • Perform weekly inspections of pyrotechnic magazines and inventory, including documentation, as defined by statutory and regulatory authorities for federal, state, and local authorities, including NFPA and Universal Orlando.
  • Perform preventative maintenance of the pyrotechnic & special effects equipment to ensure all equipment is operational and functioning properly. Research and recommend modifications to pyrotechnic & special effects equipment to attain maximum operational reliability.
  • Performs miscellaneous administrative duties and gathers other information as directed by management. Stays up to date on technology trends to advance production capabilities.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

Technical school, College or University technical theater program is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • 4 plus years’ experience within the assigned technical discipline.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience within the professional theme park, theater, corporate event and/or film/tv industries in a technical capacity (electrical, mechanical, special effects, pyrotechnics), or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Valid Florida Driver’s License – required to operate company vehicles.
  • Ability to pass the BATFE background check
  • Ability to complete the UO Pyrotechnics training course
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a CDL with Hazmat endorsement (if required)

POSITION TITLE:

  • Tech II, SPFX & Pyro

JOB SUMMARY:

Provides the highly skilled, discipline specific technical skills needed for the successful operation and maintenance of the Pyrotechnics/Special Effects (SPFX) elements for assigned Entertainment venues, projects, or events.
Responsible for the appropriate implementation of all policies and procedures, including high-risk, for assigned area and team, as defined by statutory and regulatory authorities for federal, state, and local authorities, including NFPA and Universal Orlando, governing the safe operation of all technical equipment.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • During operation, act as the Special Effects/Pyrotechnic Operator within the assigned venue, project, or event. Assesses Hazards associated with high risk pyrotechnic and special effects equipment or systems. Immediately elevates identified hazards to Lead for mitigation determination.
    Responsible for the appropriate installation/setup, storage, strike, and maintenance of SPFX equipment including handling of flammable liquids/gases & explosive materials. Elevates any technical problems or concerns to Lead or management as they occur.
  • Diagnose system failures and provide immediate and long-term corrective actions. Troubleshoot, and repair equipment including the required documentation.
  • Responsible for effectively communicating pertinent information, both written and verbal, which pertains to the technical operation of the assigned entertainment venue/event, to other disciplines, entertainment tech management, and team members of the venue/event.
  • Complete required documentation to maintain accountability of the locations for pyrotechnic devices, keeping incompliance with UO pyrotechnic policies.
  • Operation of heavy equipment.
  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Prior experience within the professional theme park/theater industry in a technical capacity (electrical, mechanical, special effects, pyrotechnics); or equivalent combination of education and experience

JOB SUMMARY:

Provides the highly skilled, discipline specific technical skills needed for the successful operation and maintenance of the Pyrotechnics/Special Effects (SPFX) elements for assigned Entertainment venues, projects, or events, to ensure highest levels of show quality and a positive guest experience.
Responsible for following all policies and procedures, including high-risk, for assigned area and team, as defined by statutory and regulatory authorities for federal, state, and local authorities, including NFPA and Universal Orlando, governing the safe operation of all technical equipment.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Installation / strike of the special effects & pyrotechnic equipment, including handling of flammable liquids/gas & explosive materials within the assigned venue, project, or event.
  • Assisting with the use and operation of the special effects & pyrotechnic equipment within the assigned venue, project or event.
  • Responsible for the appropriate maintenance of special effects equipment under the supervision of the Lead Tech.
  • Complete required documentation to maintain accountability of the locations for pyrotechnic devices, keeping in compliance within internal and governmental regulation.
  • Operation of heavy equipment which includes forklifts, extending boom forklifts & aerial work platforms.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

  • Technical school is preferred.

  • 0-2 years’ experience within the assigned technical discipline.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience within the professional theme park/theater industry in a technical capacity (electrical, mechanical, special effects, pyrotechnics); or equivalent combination of education and experience
