Manatee Physician Alliance, LLC is a part of United Health Services, Inc. and operates 18 medical offices in Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch, and Wellington, FL. ABOUT OUR OFFICE
Manatee Surgical Alliance & Weight Loss Center is the office of Stelios Rekkas, MD, FACS, FASMBS, and Julie Chorley, PA-C. Dr. Rekkas is board-certified in General Surgery and fellowship-trained in Minimally Invasive, Robotic and Bariatric Surgery. He serves at the Director of Bariatric Surgery at Manatee Memorial Hospital (MMH) and is a designated Robotic Surgical Proctor on the daVinci Surgical Platform. Julie Chorley, PA-C is a graduate of South University in Tampa and has a background in Family Medicine, General Surgery, Bariatric Surgery, and Minimally Invasive, Robotic Surgery. Together with their team, they provide general surgery and surgical weight-loss services to their patients both in office and at MMH.

Qualifications
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Bariatric Dietitian is key to helping patients learn the skills they need to take control of their lives and achieve long-term success after bariatric surgery. They meet with both bariatric and general nutritional counseling patients in-person in our Bradenton office, virtually, and over the phone, as appropriate. The Bariatric Dietitian reports to the Practice Manager and is responsible for:
- Following best practices as outlined by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), and the journal of Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases (SOARD)
- Coordinating care for patients in the surgical weight loss program with the bariatric surgeon and physician assistant
- Assessing the current lifestyle choices of patients joining the surgical weight loss program to identify areas of possible growth
- Creating actionable wellness plans tailored to the needs, preferences, and budget of each patient, and designed to help patients improve food choices and increase physical activity
- Following up with patients over the course of many months to monitor progress on goals and course correct as necessary
- Utilizing coaching and teaching techniques, including motivational interviewing, to facilitate behavioral change
- Recommending appropriate bariatric nutritional supplements to optimize patients' health prior to surgery and support post-operative recovery
- Evaluating a patient's readiness for surgery and likelihood of success afterwards from a lifestyle standpoint, and making a recommendation to the surgeon and physician assistant
- Appropriately documenting and billing patient sessions in our Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, Cerner, in a timely manner
- Collaborating with the in-office bariatric coordinator to ensure that patients meet the requirements set forth by their insurance
- Developing educational material to be distributed to patients, such as worksheets, guides, and videos
- Leading virtual and in-person support group sessions, and developing presentations based on current patients' frequently asked questions, needs, and interests
- Leading virtual and in-person seminars for potential patients and their families
- Contributing to and helping monitor the Facebook support group
- Representing the Weight Loss Center at various company and community events
- Working on other projects designed to support the office and weight loss program as assigned by the Practice Manager

QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Licensing
- BS or MS in Food Science, Nutrition, or Dietetics - required
- Registered Dietitian License from the State of Florida - required
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association (within first 90 days of hire) - required
- Diabetes Educator Certification - a plus
- Personal Trainer Certification - a plus
Experience
- 1 year of experience as an outpatient dietitian - preferred
- 1 year of experience as a bariatric dietitian - a plus
- 1 year of experience as a certified diabetes educator - a plus
