Basic Purpose
Reporting to the Production Supervisor, the CNC Machine Operator is responsible for producing high quality parts and materials by programming machines to perform the correct operations in the most efficient sequence taking labor and materials into consideration.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Preparing and operating CNC machines to perform tasks such as drilling, grinding, milling etc.
- Understanding specifications of the task at hand and the desired result by reading blueprints, mechanical drawings etc.
- Translating instructions into computer commands so the machines can perform the correct function.
- Prepare and load raw materials and parts onto the machines.
- Prepare a test run to check if the machines produce outputs according to specifications.
- Set machines to complete full cycles to fabricate large number of parts.
- Supervise the machines while they execute the tasks and make any necessary adjustments to produce a better result.
- Inspect and measure finished products and compare them with requirements to determine if the process has been completed properly.
- Execute 5S process
· Support Sustainment of all UCD’s lean programs (5s, hold tag process, standardized work, streamline line implementation, one piece flow, sustainment audits, hourly area MDI boards/charts, etc.). Support optimization of all programs related to safety, quality, delivery, and cost (SQDC).
- Clean up working area
- Complete quality checks including measurement of all dimensions on the inspection form.
- Follow all safety standards
- Follow quality control guidelines
- Adheres to company policies
- Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as your Manager may assign
Education and Work Experience
· Computer savvy with basic understanding of computer programming.
· Experience using production machinery and in woodworking industry preferred.
· High School diploma required; technical school diploma preferred.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge & training on the proper use of various tools & equipment.
- Proficient with Microsoft office and other relevant computer software applications (ERP/Other)
- Product knowledge
- Must be able to read a tape measure
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- A keen eye for detail
Equipment
- Safely operates and maintains machines and equipment per OEM specifications.
- Required to clean, sharpen, and maintain tools as needed.

Work Environment and Physical Demands
· Most full-time shop employees work a 40-hour week, although overtime and shift work maybe required.
· Adequate light and ventilation.; shop is not heated or air-conditioned.
· Wear protective equipment for ear, eye and skin when in the production area.
· Must follow safety standards at all times and wear proper protective gear.
· While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be regularly required to perform different types of physical activities.
· Ability to regularly lift 50 lbs.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 45 per week
