What are the responsibilities and job description for the NOAA NWS Linux System Administrator position at UNIVERSAL CONSULTING SERVICES INC?
As directed by Executive Order 14042: Ensuring Adequate COVID Safety Protocols for Federal Contractors, effective December 8, 2021, Universal Consulting Services, Inc will require all newly hired employees be fully vaccinated before their start date regardless of the employee’s duty location or work arrangement (e.g., telework, remote work, etc.), subject to such exceptions as required by law.
UCS supports the NOAA NWS with Operations and Maintenance for all NWS Enterprise Services including 8850 and their enclaves. Our team is looking for a Linux Systems Administrator to join our NWS project in Silver Spring, MD.
The Linux Systems Administrator will support with the following:
- Manage the directory servers for the system administrative network domains.
- Set up and maintain account access groups/privileges using Centrify, as well as folders and file sharing capabilities to assure security features are adhered to.
- Provide maintenance and systems analyses, including connectivity, technology assessments, performance monitoring, hardware support, software support, communications equipment, programming, documentation, analysis, and end user training.
- Install and maintain RHEL servers, hardware, interfaces and cabling.
- Manage interfaces with external F1SMA systems and services.
- Report and update the NOC and MOC engineers on NWS IT Infrastructure (physical and logical) on changes, updates, and perceived problems.
- Provide support and expertise on the Virtual Machine environment utilizing VMware technology.
- Conduct special technology studies and analysis based on operational, technical, and administrative requirements initiated by Government personnel, including interconnectivity, Internet connectivity, Intranet connectivity, and client server technologies.
- Prepare all necessary reports and systems security documentation as requested.
- Assist in the support of the infrastructure with emphasis on Enterprise Architecture and IT Security
- Daily backups of all server files, including file server which includes user data; and Offsite backups of these same files on a prescribed schedule
- Adhere to policy in reporting all incidents to the IT Security Officer and the NIRRA.
- Develop and implement IT Project Plans upon the Government approval, and support any IT Operational and Security mandates from management
- Provide installation and support for security agents and software (i.e., Centrify) ensuring it is at the current release level for all systems. This includes:
- Major Release - Maintain EMES security agents and Software
- Minor releases - Updates such as bug fixes, security patches and improvements as made available by the software publisher.
- Perform Continuous Monitoring IT Security assessment on all systems, assisting the Information System Security Officer (ISSO).
- Maintain log capturing hardware on the local domain. Ensure all server logs are uploaded to the NOAA Security Operation Center's ArcSight implementation.
- Assist in completing POA&M corrective actions.
