Universal Civil Construction (UCC ) is a civil construction and sitework company based in South Carolina. The company self-performs earthwork and pipe installation, and is currently seeking an experienced pipe layers to join our storm drainage and utility crews. Job Summary
Pipe Layer
Typical Duties
- Follow safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment
- Be efficient and productive at rigging pipe for placement, reading and understanding pipe specifications and plans, performing simple calculations for pipe slope/grade, and operating a pipe laser.
- Performing maintenance checks, equipment inspection, daily track cleaning, fueling and greasing
- Be familiar with excavation plans and machine limitations and follow OSHA safe digging procedures
- Observe verbal communication, hand signals, grade stakes, grade control devices
- Be able to perform physical labor such as leveling pipe bedding, operating a plate tamp and/or walk behind roller for compaction of pipe backfill, and placing fabric in pipe trench.
- Perform manual labor as needed
- Complete all duties as directed by supervisors
Skill, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience
- Must have experience working on or around heavy equipment.
- Must have experience with setting up pipe laser, reading grade stakes, measuring and leveling for utility boxes. 3 years experience required to qualify as a Pipe Layer.
- Experience with heavy equipment operation a plus.
- Able to maintain control of machine while watching the gauges and surrounding work area including people on the ground
- Knowledge of materials, methods and the tools involved with civil construction
- Physical ability to walk on uneven surfaces and climb on equipment to inspect and to get to operator's seat
- Must be able to read and follow all policies and procedures at UCC
Requirements
- Be at least 18 years old
- Able to pass a Drug test
- Legally eligible to work in the United States
- Have a valid driver's license
- Must have own reliable transportation to and from job site
