The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for the direct and indirect provision of professional nursing care for the patients in the Emergency Department (ED). The RN is accountable for ongoing evaluation and documentation of all components of care delivered to patients, including coordination and direct supervision of the patient care team. The ED RN is the acting house supervisor in the absence of department or senior leadership.

Responsibilities
- Provide professional nursing care within the RN scope of practice while delivering safe, high-quality patient care.
- Assess patient conditions, interpret clinical data, and implement appropriate care plans using critical thinking and clinical judgment.
- Administer medications, treatments, and nursing interventions as ordered by providers.
- Document patient care, assessments, and treatments accurately in the electronic health record.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care and support positive outcomes.
- Educate patients and families on care plans, treatments, and discharge instructions.
- Respond to emergency situations including Rapid Response and Code events throughout the hospital.
- Support hospital operations during off-shifts by serving as a clinical resource and assisting with patient flow and admissions.
- Maintain a safe and organized care environment while adhering to infection prevention, safety, and quality standards.
Required:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- RN current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Iowa.
- Must possess and maintain current BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and Dependent Adult and Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter certification as outlined per policy.
- Minimum of 3 years recent experience as an RN working in emergency department or intensive care
- Current professional certification related to area of practice.
