Responsibilities
The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of respiratory patient care. This role delivers high-quality diagnostic pulmonary evaluations and respiratory therapy treatments in collaboration with physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare team members. Care is provided in accordance with established clinical protocols, professional standards, and the patient care delivery model of the clinic.
- Assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate respiratory care for patients with pulmonary conditions.
- Perform pulmonary function testing and provide respiratory therapy treatments.
- Analyze and interpret diagnostic test results to support patient care decisions.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and the healthcare team to develop and implement care plans.
- Educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, treatments, and equipment use.
- Document patient care accurately and in a timely manner.
- Use critical thinking and independent judgment while maintaining accountability for patient outcomes.
- Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot respiratory therapy equipment per protocol.
- Uphold ethical standards, patient safety, and quality care initiatives.
- Support continuous improvement in clinical quality and patient experience.
Education & Experience:
- Basic knowledge of pulmonary and cardiovascular anatomy and physiology.
- Minimum of one year of experience in respiratory therapy, pulmonary diagnostics, or respiratory equipment; 2–5 years preferred.
- Experience with Pulmonary Function Testing — Preferred
- Current Iowa Respiratory Care Practitioner (R.C.P.) license.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- CPFT or RPFT credential preferred.
