• Directly observes identified patient(s) at all times during assigned shift
• Removes items from patient room/surroundings that are potentially dangerous
• Ensures implementation of patient safety protocols (elopement precautions, suicide precautions, aggressive behaviors)
• Assists in meal tray set-up if no restrictions
• Answers patient phone
• Notifies nursing staff to assist patient with activities outside of Sitter’s scope of practice
• Consults with Lead RN or assigned RN, Security, other staff as needed
• Reports oral intake to assigned RN
• Ensures safety protocols are utilized according to policy
• Documents implementation of appropriate protocols
• Documents proof of observation on suicide precautions and other protocols on flow sheet

• High School diploma or equivalent preferred but not mandatory.

• Communication Skills.
• Ability to respond appropriately to customer/co-worker.
• Interaction with a wide variety of people.
• Maintain confidential information.
• Ability to communicate only the facts to recipients or to decline to reveal information.
• Ability to project a professional, friendly, helpful demeanor.
