The Nutrition Service Assistant is responsible for the provision of timely, safe, and accurate meal service. The NSA is also responsible for proper nourishments and enteral feedings.The NSA promotes high quality food and nutrition experiences that include helping patients/families select their meals.

Responsibilities
Food Service
- Is aware of hospital and department compliance requirements.
- Practices safe food handling procedures, including cleaning, handling, storage, and sanitation.
- Provides excellent customer service which may include assisting patients with menu selection.
- Completes menu selection according to patient nutrition care order to ensure that patients receive appropriate menus and foods according to regulatory agency and department guidelines using Patient Ordering System.
- Serves patients/customers assuring prompt, efficient food service according to menu guidelines/par levels, customers service standards, infection prevention protocols.
- Works collaboratively with patients and families, unit staff, dietitians, and dining services staff.
- Follows department policies on cash handling procedures when processing guest tray transactions.
- Documents proper intakes via patient medical software and enters quality feedback using Patient Rounding.
- Follows safe food handling and sanitation practices.Uses effective communication and works as a team with all areas of the department.
- Basic computer knowledge
- Must be able to cope with high stress situations
- Must be at least 16 years of age in accordance with federal and state child labor laws.
