The Monitoring Technician is responsible for on-going surveillance of patient cardiac monitors, including rhythm interpretation, documenting of patient information according to protocol, and providing RNs and/or clinicians with immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms. The result of successful performance in this position contributes significantly to the overall wellbeing of the patient.

Responsibilities
- Maintains ongoing, high-level surveillance of patient’s cardiac rhythms and notifies nursing/clinicians of any rate/rhythm changes according to clinician/provider orders.
- Measures and interprets patient’s heart rhythm and documents on patient record per departmental standards. May initiate and discontinue monitoring equipment on admission, transfer, or discharge. Performs configuration as necessary.
- Performs clerical duties related to admission, discharge, and documentation of patient information from Central Telemetry. Answers telephone and communicates clearly when receiving information from units or providers.
- Uses clear and complete communication with unit personnel when delivering information about changes in patient rhythm.
Education: Must be at least 16 years of age. High school diploma/equivalent or in a high school/equivalent program. Able to read, write, comprehend, and speak fluent English
Experience: Experience in telemetry monitoring preferred but not required. Classes and training available.
License(s)/Certification(s): Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Multicultural sensitivity. Must be able to communicate effectively with people of diverse professional, educational, and diverse lifestyle backgrounds. Customer/Patient focus. Microsoft Office-basic computer skills.
