The Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining hospital grounds through lawn care, tree and shrub maintenance, and planting bed upkeep, ensuring a professional and safe exterior environment. The role sweeps walkways, clears debris, removes snow, and ensures proper drainage. The role performs equipment maintenance, assists with facility tasks, and supports emergency response, enhancing safety and aesthetics for patients and staff at UPH.

Responsibilities

- On a daily basis maintains the main entrances, grounds, parking lots, driveways and sidewalks in good repair and clean of trash and debris to achieve specific quality, safety, service and regulatory goals.
- Observes and practices safety regulations and procedures, including but not limited to OSHA and DNV, in the care and use of equipment and tools.
- Removes snow, ice and/or sleet from UnityPoint Health - Des Moines parking lots, driveways and sidewalks utilizing sand and/or salt to achieve specific quality, safety, service and regulatory goals.
- Airify, spray, fertilize, mow and trim turf for all UnityPoint Health – Des Moines properties to achieve specific quality, safety, service and regulatory goals.
- Plants, maintains, and prunes trees, shrubbery and flowering plants for all the UnityPoint Health – Des Moines properties.
- Operates and repairs irrigation systems and fountains for all the Unity Point-DM properties.
- Attends Iowa State Turf Conference and Iowa State Shade Tree short courses to maintain CEU as scheduled by manager.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred, or two years of experience.
Must eighteen (18) years of age or older.
Experience: Working knowledge of the care for a wide variety of plant, tree, and shrub materials required.
License(s)/Certification(s): Valid driver’s license required.
