Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments and develop individualized care plans
- Deliver and adjust medical nutrition therapy based on patient needs and clinical status
- Monitor progress using key indicators like labs, weight, and overall condition
- Document care clearly and accurately in the electronic medical record.
- Provide tailored nutrition education to patients, families, and care teams
- Develop and update educational materials to support diverse patient needs
- Promote understanding of nutrition’s role in recovery and wellness.
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, care conferences, and hospital committees
- Partner with providers to optimize treatment plans and ensure safe, effective care
Education:
- Master’s degree in Dietetics or a related field meeting Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) requirements (required for candidates credentialed after January 1, 2024)
- Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics or AND approved field accepted for those credentialed prior to 2024
- Completion of an accredited dietetic internship, coordinated program, or postgraduate program (required)
- 1 year of experience as a clinical dietitian in an acute care setting (preferred for entry-level candidates)
- 3 years of acute care clinical experience (preferred for advanced-level candidates)
- Current Registered Dietitian (RD) credential through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) (required upon hire)
- Active state licensure/certification as a Dietitian (based on state of practice) (required upon hire)
- Completion of required state-specific mandatory reporter training (child and dependent adult abuse) within 90 days of hire
- Preferred Certifications (nice to have)
- Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE)
- Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC)
- Board Certification in specialty areas (Oncology, Gerontology, Renal, or Pediatric Critical Care Nutrition)
