Position Summary
Unity Surveillance & Investigations, LLC is seeking a Part-Time to Full-Time Desktop Investigator/Research Specialist to support insurance claim investigations through comprehensive investigative reports, social media intelligence, and background research.
This is a 100% desk-based investigative role, no field work required. You’ll analyze claims, uncover digital evidence, and produce detailed, client-ready investigative reports. If you enjoy digging for hard-to-find information online, connecting the dots, and building strong cases, this role is for you.
What You’ll Do
- Conduct desktop-based claim investigations into questionable or potentially fraudulent first- and third-party insurance claims (P&C, Auto, Liability, Workers’ Comp)
- Perform advanced OSINT research, including: Social media platforms, Public records databases, Proprietary investigative tools, and Internet and deep web searches
- Produce detailed investigative reports, summarizing findings, timelines, inconsistencies, and evidence
- Analyze and interpret: Subject profiles Claims documentation, Policy information and coverage issues, Medical, legal, and financial records (as applicable)
- Identify indicators of fraud and apply industry-recognized investigative strategies
- Obtain and document information from: Online sources, Internal systems, and External databases
- Identify relationships, aliases, and hidden online identities
- Work collaboratively with investigators, case managers, and clients to resolve complex cases
- Manage multiple investigations simultaneously while meeting strict turnaround deadlines
- Maintain strict confidentiality and data security standards
- Contribute to fraud prevention strategies and case development discussions
- Prepare clear, concise, and defensible written reports suitable for client, legal, or regulatory review
What You Have
- High School Diploma or GED (Bachelor’s Degree preferred)
- 2 years of SIU, insurance claims, or fraud investigation experience
- OR
- 4 years of law enforcement, military, or investigative experience
- Demonstrated experience conducting desktop investigations and online research
- Strong ability to:
- Identify fraud indicators, Analyze large volumes of information, Draw logical, evidence-based conclusions
- Experience obtaining and documenting statements or investigative findings
- Working knowledge of:
- Insurance claims processes (WC, P&C preferred), Legal concepts, contracts, and case documentation,
- Advanced computer and internet proficiency, including:
- Social media platforms, Search engines and investigative databases, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Proven ability to:
- Manage workload and meet deadlines, Work independently in a remote environment, and Communicate effectively in writingPreferred Qualifications
- Experience creating or similar investigative reports
- Background in multi-line claims investigations (Auto, Comp, Liability, etc.)
- OSINT / digital investigations expertise
- Professional certifications (CFE, CIFI, AIC, CPCU, FCLS, SCLA, etc.)
- Experience with identity resolution / skip tracing
- Law enforcement or military investigations background
