What are the responsibilities and job description for the Heavy Equipment/Fleet Mechanic position at UNITY OF THE CAROLINAS?
What You’ll Do:
- Maintain & Repair: Perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, and complex repairs on our fleet of diesel refuse trucks (rear-loaders, Semi’s) and support equipment.
- Troubleshoot: Masterfully diagnose hydraulic systems, air brakes, electrical components, and diesel engines.
- Safety First: Ensure every vehicle leaving the shop meets strict safety and DOT compliance standards.
- Keep Records: Maintain accurate, digital logs of work orders, parts used, and inspection results.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience: 3 years of experience in heavy-duty diesel truck repair or heavy equipment maintenance (waste management industry experience is a massive plus).
- Skills: Strong knowledge of hydraulics, electrical schematics, air brakes, and diesel engine diagnostics.
- Tools: Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
- License: A valid Driver’s License (CDL Class A or B is highly preferred, or a willingness to obtain one).
- Mindset: A team player who takes pride in quality work and values a safe shop environment.
