Job Summary – Crisis Support Staff (Residential Treatment Program)
Location: Unity Children’s Home – Spring, TX
Reports To: Program Director / Clinical Supervisor
Overview
Unity Children’s Home is seeking dependable, trauma-informed Crisis Support Staff to provide safety, stability, and behavioral support to youth with complex mental health and behavioral needs in our residential treatment setting. Crisis Support Staff work as part of a multidisciplinary team to prevent and manage behavioral crises through proactive engagement, de-escalation, and — when necessary — approved physical intervention techniques in accordance with DFPS and TBRI standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide continuous supervision and maintain a safe, structured environment for youth exhibiting aggression, self-harm, or oppositional behaviors.
- Utilize TBRI and trauma-informed care principles to build connection, reduce escalation, and support emotional regulation.
- Participate in and document all crisis interventions, restraints, and debriefings in accordance with policy and Minimum Standards.
- Serve as the first responder in behavioral emergencies, assisting in the safe physical management of youth when de-escalation is unsuccessful.
- Collaborate with clinical staff, QMHPs, and supervisors to ensure consistent behavioral and treatment support.
- Assist in facility safety checks, room searches, and milieu management during high-risk or volatile periods.
- Model calm, controlled, and respectful behavior at all times, even during physical crisis situations.
Physical & Professional Requirements
- Must be capable of working in a physically demanding environment, including the ability to stand, move quickly, and assist in restraining youth who may weigh 300 lbs or more.
- Must complete and maintain Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) or equivalent restraint certification.
- Ability to lift, bend, kneel, and perform physical holds as trained and authorized by the agency.
- Maintain composure and clear judgment under pressure; ability to follow team directives during crisis response.
- Strong interpersonal skills, professionalism, and teamwork required.
Preferred Qualities
- Prior experience in law enforcement, military, corrections, or behavioral health crisis settings.
- Demonstrated strength, stamina, and confidence in managing physically intense environments.
- Commitment to youth safety, trauma-informed care, and personal integrity in high-stress situations.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED (college coursework in psychology, counseling, or criminal justice preferred).
- Minimum age: 21 years old.
- Must pass background check and drug screening.
- Valid driver’s license.
