Job Costing Divisional Controller

The Divisional Controller is the senior finance and accounting partner for one or more construction divisions, overseeing project controls, job costing, unit-price revenue recognition, billing, collections, budgeting, forecasting, cost control, financial reporting, and project profitability. This role ensures the integrity of financial data across the division’s ERP and operational support systems and provides operational leaders with timely analysis and recommendations for corrective action.

Key Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead financial oversight across the project lifecycle, including setup, budgets, production, revenue, billing, collections, profitability, and closeout.
• Ensure construction projects are accurately configured and maintained in Spectrum, including contracts, unit rates, cost and revenue codes, billing terms, budgets, and production quantities.
• Oversee unit-price revenue recognition by reconciling field production, customer-approved quantities, Spectrum entries, billings, and collections in accordance with GAAP and company policy.
• Direct job costing and cost control for labor, materials, subcontractors, equipment, overhead, commitments, accruals, and estimated costs to complete.
• Lead recurring project profitability reviews; identify margin erosion, cost overruns, unsupported quantities, billing delays, and other risks, and drive corrective actions.
• Oversee timely and accurate customer billing, accounts receivable, dispute resolution, retainage, collections, and cash-flow improvement.
• Coordinate annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and scenario analyses; explain variances and ensure project forecasts reconcile to divisional financial plans.
• Reconcile ADP payroll, labor allocations, accruals, and interfaces to Spectrum, project job costs, and the general ledger.
• Plan and oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual closes, including reconciliations, journal entries, estimates, financial statements, management reporting, and audit support.
• Serve as the primary finance partner to divisional leadership; translate financial results into operational insight, strengthen accountability, and develop assigned finance and project-control staff.

Qualifications:

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field; or related experience.
• Seven or more years of progressive operational accounting or finance experience, including leadership responsibility; experience in construction, telecommunications, utilities, infrastructure, or another project-based industry strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, project accounting, job costing, unit-price revenue recognition, budgeting, forecasting, billing, collections, and financial reporting.
• Experience with Spectrum by Viewpoint or a comparable construction ERP, ADP or a comparable payroll platform, and advanced Microsoft Excel.
• Proven analytical judgment, attention to detail, communication skills, and ability to partner effectively with financial and operational stakeholders.

• Supported revenue recognition, complete billing, improved collections, and stronger working capital.
• Current job costs, forecasts, and early identification of project and margin risks.
• Accurate project costing and consistent data integrity across ADP, Spectrum, and the general ledger.

• This position primarily works in an office environment and requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, use a computer, communicate effectively, and travel (up to 50%).
