The Development Director is responsible for leading the implementation and management of all fundraising and development activities for United Way of Ulster County. This role focuses on building and sustaining diverse revenue streams, including individual giving, corporate partnerships, grants, and special events, to support the organization’s mission and long-term sustainability. The ideal candidate is a relationship-driven leader with a strong track record in fundraising, donor engagement, and strategic growth, and a passion for advancing equity and community well-being.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising Strategy & Implementation

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive annual development plan aligned with organizational goals.
  • Specifically define impact for raised income as aligned with program work.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors, corporate sponsors, and foundation partners.
  • Lead annual giving campaigns, including workplace campaigns, major gifts, and online fundraising efforts.
  • Oversee grant strategy in collaboration with program staff, including identifying opportunities and ensuring timely submissions.
  • Expand and diversify revenue streams to ensure long-term financial sustainability.
  • Coordination with Administrative Coordinator for the acknowledgement process and donor tracking

Donor & Partner Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, corporate partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Design and implement donor stewardship strategies to increase retention and engagement.
  • Coordinate donor recognition and appreciation initiatives.
  • Represent United Way of Ulster County at community events, meetings, and public engagements.
  • Workplace Campaigns – Annual giving campaigns with local businesses
  • Organization of data managing outcomes and records
  • Outreach to secure campaign partners or renew relationships
  • Work with team to schedule/attend related events and speaking engagements

Events & Campaign Management

  • Plan and execute fundraising events and campaigns, including logistics, sponsorships, and follow-up. Current events include: 1 community based event, 1 golf event where UWUC serves as the recipient of funds and spokesperson but not as the event organizer, 1 fundraising event
  • Collaborate with internal teams to align events with programmatic impact and storytelling.
  • Evaluate event performance and implement improvements for future initiatives.

Data Management & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate donor records and reporting through CRM systems.
  • Track fundraising progress against goals and provide regular reports to leadership.
  • Analyze donor data to inform strategy and improve fundraising outcomes.
  • Identify data defined impact areas to present organization effectiveness.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the President & CEO and team on organizational strategy and growth.
  • Support board engagement in fundraising activities, including training and coordination.
  • Work with the board to identify giving opportunities and programs for board investment.
  • Ensure 100% board giving.
  • Supervise consultants, interns, and/or volunteers as applicable.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, public administration, social work, education, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising, grant writing, or nonprofit administration.
  • Demonstrated success in securing and managing government, foundation, and corporate grants.
  • Strong organizational, budgeting, and data analysis skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with professionalism and attention to detail.
  • Cultural competence and a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.
  • Experience with CRM and grants management platforms.
  • Knowledge of Ulster County community needs and resources.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $82,000.00 per year
