Vice President of Food and Nutrition Security

The VP of Food and Nutrition Security will directly support our mission to improve education, financial stability and health across Palm Beach County by providing strategic leadership for the continued implementation and evolution of the Hunger Relief Strategic Plan and related initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Collective Impact

  • Facilitate the continued implementation of the countywide Hunger Relief Strategic Plan ensuring alignment with community needs and emerging opportunities.
  • Convene and facilitate the county-wide Hunger Relief Advisory council, work groups and subcommittees
  • Mobilize stakeholders - continuously refine work group structures to monitor hunger trends, identify gaps and respond to emerging needs.
  • Strategic planning - work with community representatives, funders, government, education and nonprofit partners to execute priorities, re-evaluate strategies and drive toward shared outcomes.

Community Partnerships & Engagement

  • Build strategic partnerships - cultivate relationships with traditional and non-traditional partners around the Hunger Relief Strategic Plan, including food banks, school district nutrition programs, community gardens, health systems and private sector leaders.
  • Actively participate in relevant community, state and national task forces, commissions, and committees in order to enhance our work and affect change.
  • Public policy advocacy - stay informed about public policy issues affecting food security, including SNAP, WIC, the Farm Bill and school meal programs and advocate for favorable changes at local, state and federal levels.
  • Community Presence - be visible and accessible across Palm Beach County. Willingness to work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, when needed.

Measurement, Evaluation & Reporting

  • Track impact - collect, analyze and report data on food insecurity metrics, program outcomes and progress toward strategic goals using systems such as 211 data, the food finder map and local/state/federal data sources.
  • Prepare reports - compile regular progress reports for stakeholders, funders and the community, including an annual summary report on the Hunger Relief Strategic Plan.
  • Communicate Successes & Challenges - articulate both wins and ongoing challenges to diverse audiences maintaining transparency and trust.

Fund Development & Resource Mobilization

  • Secure Funding - working with the Resource Development, Major Gifts and Community Investment teams, increase investment in food and nutrition security by securing grants, private donations and corporate contributions.
  • Identify funding opportunities - pursue projects consistent with strategic priorities, especially those targeting key geographic areas and populations.
  • Manage Grant Compliance - ensure all grant requirements are met and/or exceeded, including reporting and outcome tracking.
  • Determine the dollars or resources needed to address the identified priorities and strategies which align with the initiative's metrics.

Team Management & Administration

  • Manage hunger relief staff - supervise and support the Hunger Relief team, providing leadership, professional development and day to day guidance.
  • Manage Advisory Structures - oversee meeting management tools, agendas, materials minutes, fact sheets and statistics for the Advisory Council and work groups.
  • Disaster Response Support - assist as assigned with the organization's disaster response efforts, especially relevant given hurricane season impacts on food systems.

Assist with other duties and projects that support the department's goals

Experience/Education/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree required and master's degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of leadership experience in human services, community planning, food systems (or comparable combination of education and experience).
  • Experience working in a team environment, facilitating effective groups, developing collaboratives, and working with volunteers.
  • Experience with collective impact models and community driven efforts, including facilitation of community conversations, preferred.
  • Proven track record leading and working on high profile community projects with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyze data and develop innovative strategies to maximize results.
  • Excellent customer/client service relations.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects.
  • Communication excellence - ability to translate complex issues into compelling narratives for different audiences

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • Problem solving and strong decision-making capabilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and independently when necessary
