What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ready.Set.READ! Director position at United Way of Berks County?
Are you a visionary leader passionate about education and community change? United Way of Berks County is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and collaborative individual to serve as the Ready.Set.READ! (RSR) Director, a multi-partner, county-wide initiative aimed at ensuring every child in Berks County reads proficiently by the end of third grade.
As the Director, you will lead the continued development, implementation, and growth of RSR’s early learning and school-age programming, partnering with schools, nonprofits, businesses, volunteers, and families to drive measurable progress in early grade reading success.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide the vision, strategy, and execution of RSR’s multi-year plan in partnership with the RSR Board of Directors, United Way leadership, and community stakeholders.
- Manage the planning, delivery, and continuous improvement of RSR programs, including data tracking and evaluation to ensure measurable outcomes.
- Build strong relationships with schools, early childhood providers, community organizations, and volunteers to foster collective impact and support for early literacy.
- Collaborate with the United Way Grants and Development teams to secure funding, in-kind support, and volunteer engagement.
- Work closely with the Marketing team to share RSR’s story, promote its success, and build public awareness around the importance of early literacy.
What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, nonprofit management, public administration, or related field.
- At least 5 years of leadership experience in nonprofit, education, or community initiatives. Supervising and developing a team is a must have.
- A collaborative leader with integrity, vision, and strong communication skills.
- Passion for ensuring community voice is heard and valued and creating lasting impact.
- Familiarity with early literacy programs, childcare and/or Keystone STARS or similar community-based efforts is a plus.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
