Job Title: CNC Programmer
Reports To: CNC Department Manager
Job Description: United Valve, a leading provider of valve repair, modification and testing services, is seeking an experienced CNC programmer to join our team in Houston, Texas. Successful candidates will use prior programming skills, relevant to the valve industry, to assist both the Engineering and Production Departments the manufacturing of various valve components.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1) Proficient in writing programs from blueprints and/or sold models for the CNC turning and milling machines
2) Load electronic files onto the machine
3) Studies and interprets drawings, manuals, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations and set-up requirements to maximize efficiencies
4) Work within very close tolerances to ensure product quality
5) Create set-up sheets based on tooling selection criteria
6) Monitor and verify the accuracy of each job’s initial set-up and outcome.
7) Responsible for the machine performance and product outcome of assigned projects.
8) Maintain library of programs and revise programs and documents based on engineering changes
9) Works for continuous process improvements and machine time reductions, reporting program changes to turning and milling supervisor and/or manufacturing engineer
10) Keeps CNC operators abreast of daily machine performance and project updates
11) Verifies correct tools against tool sheet and program; sets up any type of tool in the pre-setter and/or machine
12) Downloads program to the machine, dry run machine with no material and all tools in place
13) Monitor screen pages and machine operation to detect out of tolerance machining – adjust machine controls or control media; verifies the correct program is running in the machine
14) As an operator, complies with and maintains inspection procedure throughout production run
15) Instruct CNC operator(s) on required tasks to keep machine in operation
16) Notifies turning and mill supervisor of problems with equipment and/or tooling that may cause defects/lost time
17) Maintains good quality and production output
18) Labels parts to send to next operation
19) Demonstrates ability to streamline processes to increase productivity and quality; production and prototype jobs are setup consistently, timely and accurately.
20) Assists in solving plant operating problems and/or cost reduction projects
21) Communicates with supervisor, engineers, quality and other shop personnel for assignments and to resolve machine or quality issues.
22) Within the scope of the law will be required to adhere to and comply with state and federal law, Company ISO quality program and procedures, Company policies and Safety and Environmental Regulations.
23) Other duties as assigned, hours and days may vary due to customer need and business capabilities
24) Coordinates with Quality department to insure parts comply with specifications.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Demonstrated proficiency in Esprit software for milling and turning, tooling, tooling selection and Fanuc controls is a requirement
• Detailed knowledge of turning and milling CNC machines; proficient in set-up, operation and programming of machine. Detailed knowledge reading blueprints and geometric tolerances and dimensions, engineering.
• Detailed knowledge of precision measuring equipment and the application of such instruments – including but not limited to calipers, ID / OD micrometers, depth gauges, indicators.
• To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of various tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars and inserts used on various machines and
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Inventor drafting software.
• Mechanical aptitude required.
• High school Diploma or equivalent with at least 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
