About The Role

As the Vice President of Engineering for UUPS Substation, Transmission & Distribution projects across the US, you will play a strategic leadership role in driving the successful execution of all engineering activities. Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President, you will be responsible for overseeing the end-to-end engineering process, including business development, project development, and engineering design. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of leading a dynamic engineering organization focused on large-scale substation, transmission or distribution projects, strong business acumen, and exceptional leadership skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Planning and Leadership:

  • Develop and implement strategic plans and initiatives to drive the growth and profitability of our Engineering business across US, aligning with company objectives and market trends.
  • Provide visionary leadership and guidance to the Engineering and Design team, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration to achieve project goals and objectives.
  • Be accountable to develop and successfully execute on cost reduction programs through value engineering evaluations opportunities, optimization of project execution, people, processes, and technologies.

Engineering & Design:

  • Lead and mentor a national team of engineers and designers to ensure successful project delivery from conception to completion.
  • Develop and implement innovative engineering and design solutions to optimize the performance and efficiency of substation, transmission & distribution projects.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including sales, operations, project management, and finance to drive strategic initiatives and achieve business objectives.
  • Oversee the design, engineering, survey (drone) and permitting processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and industry best practices.

Project Development and Execution:

  • Lead engineering business development activities to identify new clients and opportunities for continued growth of the engineering organization.
  • Lead the identification, evaluation, and development of substation, transmission & distribution projects, working closely with internal stakeholders and external partners to assess project feasibility, risks, and opportunities.
  • Oversee the engineering execution of EPC activities ensuring projects are optimized and delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Stakeholder Management:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, contractors, regulatory agencies, to facilitate project development and execution.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for client engineering interactions, managing expectations, resolving issues, and ensuring customer satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.

Risk Management and Compliance:

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks and uncertainties, implementing effective risk management strategies and controls to safeguard project success and minimize potential impacts.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and contractual obligations, maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and environmental stewardship.

Financial Management and Performance:

  • Develop and manage project budgets, forecasts, and financial models, tracking project costs, revenues, and margins to optimize project profitability and financial performance while driving new business.
  • Monitor project progress, performance, and KPIs, conducting regular reviews and analyses to identify areas for improvement and drive operational excellence.
  • Facilitate operational analysis process with execution the team at the end of projects to report lessons learned for implementation in future project bids

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering and advanced degree or MBA preferred.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) is required.
  • Experience in managing a departmental P&L is required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in project development and engineering for EPC projects, with a proven track record of successfully leading large-scale projects.
  • Strong technical expertise in substation, transmission or distribution engineering and best practices.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with a track record of building and leading high-performing teams, driving results, and fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strategic thinker with strong business acumen, analytical skills, and the ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; talk or hear; perform fine motor, hand and finger skills in the use of a keyboard, telephone, or writing. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will spend their time in an office environment as well as an industrial environment observing employees, their progress with assigned work, and interfacing with both employees and client employees with a moderate to high noise level.
