Responsibilities
- Safely operate bucket trucks, cranes, and other heavy equipment to access aerial and underground cable routes.
- Install, splice, and repair fiber optic cables and telecommunications network cables in outdoor environments.
- Use diagnostic tools and telecommunications testing equipment to troubleshoot network issues efficiently.
- Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and engineering plans to guide installation and maintenance activities.
- Perform telecommunications outside plant operations including cabling, splicing, and testing of fiber optic systems.
- Adhere strictly to safety standards outlined by the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) during all activities.
- Conduct climbing and outdoor work in various weather conditions while maintaining safety protocols.
- Assist with the interpretation of technical schematics related to fiber optic networks, LAN (Local Area Network), WAN (Wide Area Network), Ethernet, and telephony systems.
- Support low voltage electrical work involved in telecommunications infrastructure projects.
- Maintain detailed records of work performed, including cable splicing logs and network diagnostics reports.
Experience
- Proven experience in field service roles involving outdoor telecommunications or electrical work.
- Hands-on experience operating bucket trucks, power tools, hand tools, and construction equipment.
- Knowledge of fiber splicing techniques and fiber optic cable installation processes.
- Familiarity with telecommunications testing equipment for diagnosing network issues.
- Experience interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and engineering troubleshooting guides.
- Strong background in telecommunications outside plant operations including cabling, splicing, and testing fiber optic cables.
- Construction experience with a focus on outdoor infrastructure projects is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to climb poles or towers safely while adhering to safety standards such as the NESC.
- Technical proficiency in computer networking concepts including LAN/WAN architecture, Ethernet cabling, and power over Ethernet (PoE).
- Ability to troubleshoot complex network issues involving fiber optics, electrical systems, or low voltage wiring.
