Role Description The Traffic Safety Flagger is a full-time, on-site role based in Salem, OR. This position is responsible for safely directing vehicle and pedestrian traffic through and around road construction and work zones, following established traffic control plans and state regulations. Day-to-day tasks include setting up, monitoring, and removing signs, cones, barricades, and other traffic control devices; communicating clearly with drivers, construction crews, and supervisors; and staying alert to changing conditions to prevent accidents. The role also involves inspecting equipment for safe operation, reporting hazards or incidents promptly, and participating in safety meetings and ongoing training. Flaggers may work in various weather conditions and must maintain professional conduct while representing United Traffic Control Solutions LLC at job sites.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of Traffic Control principles and Road Safety practices, including safe work zone setup and compliance with state and local regulations.
- Effective Communication skills for interacting with drivers, construction teams, supervisors, and the public in a clear, calm, and respectful manner.
- Experience or familiarity with Road Construction environments, including coordinating with crews and adapting to changing site conditions.
- Ability to participate in and apply Training related to flagging, safety procedures, and use of traffic control equipment; willingness to complete and maintain required certifications.
- Strong situational awareness, attention to detail, and ability to remain focused while working outdoors in varying weather and traffic conditions.
- Reliable transportation to reach job sites in and around Salem, OR; ability to stand for extended periods and lift traffic control devices as needed.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record preferred; prior experience as a flagger or in traffic control is a plus.
