The Management Associate program is our entry level program for college graduates to help accelerate their professional development over 12-24 months with on-the-job training and other personal and skill-set development opportunities. U. S. Steel has an opening for a Management Associate – Engineering/Project Management within our Engineering and Technology organization. The Engineering department is primarily a project management organization that oversees the development and implementation of capital projects - both small and large - that support U. S. Steel operations.

- Coordinate or lead all phases of the project life cycle: business case/initiation (benefits determination), front end loading/planning (scope development, design/engineering, total project planning), execution (procurement & construction), start-up/commissioning (training & initial operations), and project close-out.
- Conduct problem solving investigations of real issues in the plant operations under the supervision and mentoring of a senior engineer
- Interact with the operations personnel and provide real solutions to the problems of operating a multi billion dollar manufacturing facility
- Lead and coordinate all project stakeholders during project planning and execution Oversee and coordinate engineering consulting firms and technology suppliers for the technical development and design of the project
- Oversee and coordinate equipment suppliers, contractors, and consulting personnel for the sourcing of all project components and equipment, the installation or construction thereof, and start-up to initial operations and turnover to plan personnel
- Develop, prepare, and submit key project deliverables such as project charter, business case, scopes of work, work breakdown structure, project estimate, schedule, funding requests, safety plans and procedures, procurement and construction planning documents, etc
- Perform project budgeting, monthly forecasting, scope/cost/schedule control, scope & quality validations, shop inspections of equipment/fabrications, factory acceptance testing, turnover to operations, administrative close-out.
- On-site training will take place at various facilities of U.S. Steel requiring travel and periods of time away from home
- Following successful completion of this program, participants will be advanced to an Engineering Level 1 project manager position
- Degrees preferred: B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Civil Engineering or Project/Construction Management
- Must have graduated within the last three years from an accredited college or university at the time of hire
- Must have less than three years of professional work experience
- Minimum 3.0 Overall GPA
- Good verbal and communication skills
