Intern - Mine Engineer

We are seeking Mine Engineer /Civil Engineer/Geotechnical Engineer and Geology Interns at Minnesota Ore Operations. The Internship affords the opportunity to apply educational experiences to real world engineering principals.  This position is a temporary full-time position for the summer of 2027 and will be located at our mine operations in Mountain Iron, MN and Keewatin, MN. At these facilities, iron-bearing rock called taconite is mined and processed into iron ore pellets for use in U. S. Steel's steelmaking facilities. This is a safety sensitive position requiring drug and alcohol testing.

Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Report directly to Senior Engineer/ Senior Geologist and work along-side the mine engineering department to improve production at Minntac and Keetac.
• Utilize mine planning/geology software to evaluate the short-range mining plan and Ore control activities .
• Work with the Drill and Blast Coordinator to layout and execute the mine blasts.
• Log drill core as needed- Geology.
• Assist with mining reclamation projects. Design Dumps and roads that meet the mine plan.
• Work with drone data to update maps and aerial images as necessary.
• Develop and monitor the field improvement projects.

Requirements:

• Candidates must be a full-time student pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Mine Engineer, Civil Engineer, Geology, Geotechnical Engineer, or Mineral Process Engineering.
• Candidates must be a current student and have completed their sophomore year by June 2027 and be in good academic standing.
• Must have at least a 2.75 GPA, will accept 2.5 with experience.
• Be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.

Rate: $24-26/hr. This base salary range is a good faith estimate. Based on candidate skills/experience the final offer may be lower/higher.
