Environmental Engineer

Steel’s Environmental Engineers are problem-solvers and contingency planners for every environmental issue involved in the steel manufacturing process. This position reports directly to the Sr. Director – Environmental, Tailings, Permitting and Community Relations and will work closely with colleagues in the Environmental Department, Corporate Environmental Affairs, Plant and Mine Maintenance, and Operations Departments, and will also interact with federal, state and local regulatory agencies, and Environmental Department coworkers on permitting, compliance, and facility inspections.  The position would primarily have responsibility for the water permitting programs at both Minntac and Keetac.

Major responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

• Water permit program compliance including meeting legal requirements
• Submit monthly, quarterly and annual reports to maintain compliance with permit requirements
• Conduct routine facility inspections as needed to maintain compliance with applicable permit conditions
• Participate on and lead multi-disciplinary teams on compliance and permitting issues
• Participate in permit condition negotiations with environmental agencies
• Direct local union employees on routine water quality/quantity monitoring
• Direct contractors as needed on permitting projects
• Coordinate with engineering, operations, maintenance, legal, etc. staff on permit and compliance issues
• Assist with the development and adherence to compliance plans and with permit and rule compliance
• Evaluate new regulations for applicability to the facility and prepare comments as needed

A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related Environmental Science field is required along with the ability to summarize information (verbally and written), and to effectively communicate project and/or compliance status updates.
The base salary of $71,009 to $106,514 is a good faith estimate. Based on candidate skills/experience the final offer may be lower/higher.
