What are the responsibilities and job description for the State Director position at United States Senate?
Senator Martin Heinrich (D-NM) seeks a State Director. As a member of the senior staff, this position reports to the Chief of Staff and is responsible for overseeing the Senator’s in-state operations, strategy and community outreach. The position is based in Albuquerque but includes travel throughout New Mexico. Primary duties include overseeing execution of the Senator’s schedule during State Work Periods; acting as the Senator’s representative, including in delivering remarks on his behalf; creating and proactively building relationships with stakeholders; staying up-to-date on and engaging in, as appropriate, legislative and non-legislative issues in or affecting the state; working directly and frequently with constituents, community leaders, and organizations; and managing all staff in New Mexico.
The ideal candidate has extensive professional experience in New Mexico, a history of working with local stakeholders, and a strong management approach focused on empowering and supporting staff. This is not an entry level position; substantial applicable work experience is strongly preferred. Fluency in Spanish is a plus. This position is required to work in the office.
