Senior Electrical Engineer


Position Overview

The Senior Electrical Engineer will play a critical role in supporting safe and compliant operations by providing expert guidance in electrical engineering, hazard analysis, process safety management, and risk mitigation. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, this position reviews technical documentation, validates operational procedures, evaluates electrical systems, and develops recommendations that enhance safety, reliability, and mission success across complex operational environments.


Clearance Requirement: Minimum of Current Interim Secret Security Clearance


Job Responsibilities:

  • Review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for technical accuracy, completeness, compliance, and alignment with applicable safety and engineering requirements.
  • Provide engineering oversight and technical support during the validation and verification of SOPs and associated processes.
  • Conduct and/or support hazard analyses for operational, engineering, and production processes, including identification, assessment, documentation, and mitigation of electrical and process-related hazards.
  • Evaluate proposed hazard-control measures and provide recommendations to reduce operational risk.
  • Review Process Safety Management (PSM) submittals and supporting technical documentation and provide engineering comments, recommendations, and disposition of identified issues.
  • Review and evaluate electrical drawings, schematics, designs, and technical documentation for safety, functionality, compliance, and technical adequacy.
  • Review, assess, and provide technical guidance regarding the command's electrical grounding and bonding program.
  • Identify electrical safety concerns, deficiencies, and potential areas for improvement and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
  • Provide senior-level electrical engineering consultation, technical support, and advice to additional supported processes and organizations.
  • Participate in technical reviews, safety assessments, process reviews, working groups, and meetings with government personnel and other engineering disciplines.
  • Prepare and/or review technical reports, engineering assessments, findings, recommendations, and other documentation as required.
  • Coordinate with government engineers, safety personnel, operators, technicians, contractors, and other stakeholders to resolve technical issues.
  • Apply sound engineering judgment to complex or non-routine operational and safety issues.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to electrical safety, process safety, operational reliability, and risk reduction.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance, engineering recommendations, and risk-based decision support to management and operational personnel.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Active Secret security clearance or ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution or other appropriately accredited engineering program.
  • [8–10 ] years of progressively responsible professional electrical engineering experience, preferably in industrial, manufacturing, defense, government, energetics, research and development, or similarly complex technical environments.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing and interpreting electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Experience conducting or participating in hazard analyses, risk assessments, or engineering safety reviews.
  • Knowledge of electrical grounding and bonding principles, practices, and requirements.
  • Experience reviewing technical procedures, SOPs, engineering documentation, or process-control documentation.
  • Working knowledge of applicable electrical and workplace safety requirements and recognized engineering practices.
  • Ability to identify technical and operational risks and develop practical mitigation recommendations.
  • Strong technical writing, documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams consisting of government personnel, engineers, scientists, technicians, safety professionals, operators, and contractors.
  • Ability to work independently and provide authoritative technical recommendations within the individual's area of expertise.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain the security clearance and/or installation access required for the position.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience supporting the Department of Defense, Department of the Navy, Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), or other federal technical organizations.
  • Experience working in a military installation, government laboratory, industrial facility, energetics environment, or other safety-critical operation.
  • Familiarity with Process Safety Management (PSM) principles and documentation.
  • Experience with formal methodologies such as Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), What-If/Checklist, FMEA, HAZOP, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), or similar risk-assessment techniques.
  • Knowledge of applicable NFPA, NEC, IEEE, OSHA, DoD, Navy, NAVSEA, and command-specific electrical safety requirements, as appropriate to the supported work.
  • Experience evaluating grounding, bonding, static electricity, electrical distribution, equipment installations, or related electrical safety systems.
  • Experience supporting operations involving hazardous materials, energetic materials, explosives, or other high-hazard processes is highly desirable.

Work Environment

The majority of the work will be conducted at Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division (NSWC IHD) and its detachments, with occasional work required at satellite locations. This position requires work in laboratory, test facility, and field environments involving explosive ordnance and associated safety controls. Occasional travel may be required to support testing, evaluations, and technical meetings.


Work may occasionally involve exposure to chemical or hazardous materials in areas under controlled conditions. This position requires adherence to all applicable security, safety, and operational procedures. Employees must maintain professionalism and compliance with all government and installation regulations.

Pay: $101,345.00 - $169,763.00 per year
