If Selected For This Position, You Will Join a Well-respected Team In The United States Attorney's Office (USA), District Of New Mexico, Serving As a Supervisory Paralegal Specialist In The Criminal Division. Typical Work Assignments Will Include

  • Providing administrative and technical supervision to support staff who provides paralegal or legal assistant services to one or more Assistant U.S. Attorneys;
  • Coordinating and performing duties encompassing all electronic discovery issues within the Criminal Division for the entire district;
  • Independently performing the most complex paralegal research and support assignments as needed;
  • Reviewing all routine pleadings prepared by those reporting to incumbent as needed to ensure compliance with Department of Justice and USAO policies and practices;
  • Providing leadership to USAO legal and paralegal staff by monitoring activities and making or recommending case improvements generally and as needed for electronically stored information; and
  • Performing a variety of tasks associated with trials, hearings and other legal presentations.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.
  • If selected, you will be subject to the satisfactory completion of a one-year supervisory or managerial probationary period unless this requirement has been met previously.

Qualifications

GS-12: To be eligible at the GS-12 level, you must have one (1) year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service.

Specialized experience is defined as supervising or working as a paralegal in a legal office environment; providing administrative and technical legal expertise; working closely with attorneys responsible for investigating and litigating cases; performing legal research in support of litigation; examining and processing a variety of legal documents; analyzing and evaluating data in response to complex or sensitive requests; drafting briefs, pleadings or other legal documenting and correspondence; document findings and preparing recommendations; and planning and/or overseeing work assignments of legal staff.

Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP): The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. If your agency has notified you in writing that you are a displaced employee eligible for ICTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: 1) this vacancy is within your ICTAP eligibility; 2) you apply under the instructions in the announcement; and 3) you are found well-qualified for this vacancy.
