Yard Supervisor
Job Summary:
The Yard Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily yard operations, including inventory management, material transfers, and employee supervision. This role ensures agricultural stock is accurately received, stored, replenished, and transferred according to established schedules, safety standards, and company policies. The Yard Supervisor trains and supports staff, coordinates with other departments to improve operational efficiency, and monitors equipment to maintain a safe, organized, and efficient yard environment.
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Receives and records new inventory as it is delivered; inspects and stores it according to policy.
• Conducts physical inventory, compares results to computerized inventory, and reconciles any differences.
• Oversee day-to-day activities of subordinates and assign responsibilities.
• Train employees and provide ongoing support.
• Replenishes ag stock and inventory as needed and ag stock is stored in correct locations in the yard.
• Transfers inventory to trucks for delivery in a timely manner and according to schedule.
• Schedules materials being transferred to and from yard; coordinates transfer of inventory between departments.
• Operate small equipment, including skid steers and forklifts, to support daily operations.
• Collaborates with other departments and stakeholders to develop strategic plans and procedures to increase the efficiency of yard practices.
• Enforces operating instructions and safety policies.
• Resolves routine equipment issues.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
• Previous experience in agriculture or an agriculture related field required.
• Previous warehouse experience preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Current and valid driver's license.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
• Skilled in small equipment operation, including skid steers and forklifts; knowledgeable in safety procedures and load handling.
• Ability to anticipate and solve problems.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to meet deadlines.
• Working knowledge of data entry and inventory software and systems.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift heavy objects up to 50 pounds
• Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods of time
• Must be able to occasionally climb and descend ladders
• Must be able to work in warehouse environment and outside yard environment with exposure to dust, noise, and extreme temperatures.
