QUALITY CONTROL TECHNICIAN I

Job Title: Quality Control Technician I | Department: Quality | Reports to: Quality Lead & Quality Manager | FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY:

As a Quality Control Technician I, you will ensure that complex, high-tolerance aerospace and defense components meet rigorous precision and compliance standards. In addition to performing inspections, you will mentor and train other technicians, sharing the skills and discipline needed to keep our products mission-ready and uphold our reputation for quality.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Inspect incoming materials, in-process products, and finished products and perform dimensional inspections on complex aerospace and defense components using precision measurement tools (CMM, height gauges, micrometers, optical comparators, etc.).
• Learn to interpret and apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to verify conformance to engineering drawings and specifications.
• Read and analyze complex blueprints, CAD models, and technical documentation to determine inspection requirements.
• Assist with investigations and corrective actions as directed using root-cause analysis.
• Document inspection results in accordance with AS9100 and defense industry standards, ensuring traceability and compliance.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to resolve nonconformances and recommend corrective actions.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance inspection efficiency and accuracy.
• Support responsibilities of the quality department as needed.

WHAT YOU BRING TO UPC:

Required

• High school diploma or GED required with 1-3 years of experience in the manufacturing, quality, metrology, or engineering industry.
• Basic math, measurement, and computer skills.
• Ability to work constructively with others, demonstrated dependability, effective verbal and written communication skills, heightened attention to detail and ability to follow through, and commitment to team & collaboration.

Preferred

• Certified Quality Technician
• Solid Blueprint reading and ability to learn GD&T.
• Basic knowledge of metrology/gaging.
• Basic knowledge of quality tools and lab equipment.
• Basic understanding of problem-solving tools (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone Analysis, etc.).
• Beginner knowledge of auditing (AS9100, ISO9001, Internal)

• Must be able to remain stationary 80% of the time.
• Must be able to occasionally move about inside a warehouse and office to access files, office/warehouse machinery, etc.
• Must be able to communicate and exchange accurate information.
• Must operate office productivity equipment including computers, copy machines, and printers.

WORKING CONDITIONS:                                            

Work is performed on-site in an office/warehouse environment with frequent interruptions and schedule variances based on business needs. No special coordination beyond normal mobility, handling of everyday objects and materials, and use of office equipment is necessary to perform the job satisfactorily.
