About the Office of Early Learning (OEL)

OEL’s Mission In collaboration with Family and the community, we will educate, empower and support children by providing continuous high quality comprehensive services to achieve successful parent engagement and positive child outcomes. The UPO Office of Early Learning has a special focus on helping children from birth to age 3 to grow and thrive in a healthy, supportive environment. Our Early Head Start programs provide infants and toddlers with the tools needed to develop their social-emotional, physical, cognitive, and language skills—steering them in the direction of happiness and success.

MAJOR DUTIES:

 

Provides instruction and supervision in a safe and healthy learning environment for children. Provides and coordinates education services; works in partnership with parents to promote the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of children. Encourages parent engagement in all aspects of the program. Works towards compliance to meet requirements of HSPPS and OSSE policies and procedures. To abide by the OEL Code of Conduct and UPO Employee Handbook. 

 

Plan and implement indoor/ outdoor activities with children utilizing the curriculum, Head Start mandated outcomes and the Early learning Framework. Develop and implement lesson plans, provide child-led experiences, (quiet/active, indoor/outdoor, and fine/gross motor) that are flexible and accessible to each child’s needs, abilities, and interests.

Complete a minimum of 10 objective observations per learning area and leveled to fidelity for each child enrolled in the classroom weekly. Enter Observational data into T.S. GOLD daily. In collaboration with co- teachers develop and   prepare curriculum materials, plans, and instructional strategies, that will support children’s learning styles and refine instruction. Encourage and models language expansion, extended learning, and problem-solving strategies throughout the day.

Facilitate the communication with families to discuss child progress and promote learning. Understand and demonstrate how families’ cultures influence caregiving practices and shape children’s early development. Communicates with parents about transitions to develop strategies that can help the child. 

Establish a partnership with families that includes their input and goals regarding their child’s development and care.

Model health and safety practices according to USDA and state regulations that follows strict food hygiene, storage, preparation, and safety practices (ITERS Health and Safety Practices).

Ensure a clean, safe, and healthy physical classroom and playground environment. Implement classroom practices that support the organizational mission, philosophies, values, goals and policies to families, colleagues and the community.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

CDA in Early Childhood Education.  Must have a minimum of one (1) year of experience working with infants and toddlers. Must be able to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds. Basic to intermediate computer skills, internet, and e-mail. Good writing and verbal communication skills, internet, and email.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

AA in Early Childhood Education.  Must have a minimum of two (2) year of experience working with infants and toddlers. Must be able to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds.   Intermediate to Advance computer skills, internet, and e-mail.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

In the event that an offer is extended, the candidate will be required to successfully complete a criminal background check and/or FBI fingerprinting, as well as pre-employment drug screening, as applicable for the position.
