Position Summary
United Petfood is hiring a Weekend Batching Technician for our Mishawaka production facility. This role is designed for individuals who want a weekend-only schedule, working two 12-hour shifts (Saturday & Sunday, 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM). Weekend Batching Technicians receive 32 hours of pay for 24 hours worked.
The Batching Technician is responsible for setting up, staging, and monitoring batching and grinding equipment to ensure proper ingredient flow to extruders. This role plays a key part in maintaining product quality, food safety, and efficient production.
Schedule & Pay
Work Hours: Saturdays & Sundays, 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM
Hours Worked: 24 hours/week
Hours Paid: 32 hours/week
Key Responsibilities
Set up, operate, and monitor ingredient levels according to recipes, SOPs, and GMPs.
Stage ingredients and equipment for changeovers based on the production schedule.
Monitor extruder feed levels and ensure batching meets job specifications.
Troubleshoot basic batching system applications as needed.
Operate forklift to stage and move ingredients for production.
Maintain cleanliness of batching area and complete sanitation signoffs.
Review and follow production schedule throughout the shift.
Follow all safety, quality, and GMP standards.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Workplace Safety
Complete safety system documentation and report deviations.
Participate in mandatory safety trainings and follow all safety policies.
Immediately report safety issues, near misses, and injuries.
Quality & Food Safety
Complete and maintain required quality and food safety documentation.
Ensure compliance with BRC and company standards.
Take immediate action to resolve quality or food safety issues.
Participate in mandatory food safety and quality training programs.
Required Qualifications
Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
Ability to work in an environment with exposure to odors, noise, heat, cold, dust, and chemicals.
Mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools.
Ability to lift 35–50 lbs and perform physical work.
High school level math and communication skills.
Ability to read and follow process operating procedures.
Familiarity with computer applications.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous batching or production machine setup experience.
Experience in a food or beverage manufacturing environment.
