The Health & Safety Supervisor provides a framework for employees to be engaged, challenged, and motivated to improve and sustain a healthy, injury free and auto crash free workplace. He/She is responsible for injury and auto crash prevention. The Health & Safety Supervisor also serves as a liaison between the district and the division to ensure UPS internal, federal, state and local safety compliance to regulatory standards. He/She must have a flexible travel schedule.
The Health & Safety Supervisor trains and educates operations management to carry out their safety responsibilities. He/She holds Operations accountable to achieve individual and group safety goals. This position coordinates with the Business Managers annual training schedules to ensure ongoing Health and Safety (H&S) training compliance through ongoing feedback and support. The Health & Safety Supervisor ensures the Operations Business Managers train Supervisors to train the non-management employees on safety processes.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Ensures Designated Responders within the Division have current training and skills
- Conducts Co-chair, Wellness Champion and Committee Member training to ensure CHSP compliance
- Proactively works with CHSP Committees to ensure the committees are effectively carrying out their roles and responsibilities
- Reviews existing safety processes and activities; working with the Division Managers to determine gaps within the division
- Tracks, measures and communicates safety results to the District Health and Safety Manager, CHSP Manager, and Division Manager
- Participates in KETER assisted and internal CSE audits to provide support
- Manages the Safety Process Improvement Plans (SPIPs) to ensure all recommendations are implemented by the establish target dates
- Proactively works with CHSP Committees to ensure the committees are effectively carrying out their roles and responsibilities

- Demonstrates a general understanding of the need for change; Understands where gaps exist between current and desired states; determines behaviors that align with or detract from change objectives
- Captures/documents specific and accurate information; learns subjects thoroughly and in detail; completes work with thoroughness; supplies appropriate details when requested; maintains organized files
- Applies established procedures for responding to incidents; determines and documents information pertinent to incidents; communicates resolutions or results to stakeholders
- Applies knowledge of agencies' functions and regulations to compliance and enforcement activities; identifies routine situations where the organization may be out of compliance as well as the specific impacts of non-compliance
- Identifies and evaluates risks; determines and applies appropriate risk treatment(s)
- Demonstrates and explains proper processes, procedures and methods for small package operations; demonstrates a basic knowledge of common tools, equipment, and technology used within the operation
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of techniques for soliciting and gathering information; identifies appropriate sources of information
- Must be able to pass DOT physical, respiratory exam, and Management Driver Safety Training (MDST)
