As an active OSRSG – VAC team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to OSRSG -VAC and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including: • Contribution is made towards improving children’s participation in decision making processes; • Good relationships are developed and effective advocacy conducted with partners supporting children’s participation; • Contact with a variety of stakeholders is established, maintained and expanded; • Support in the organization of country visits and preparation of reports and speeches; • Children’s rights awareness and training programmes relevant to the efforts to end violence against children; • Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment;

Duties and Responsibilities

Guided by General Assembly resolution 62/141, in which the Assembly established the mandate, the Special Representative is a global, independent advocate for the prevention and elimination of all forms of violence against children. The mandate of the SRSG is anchored in human rights standards, promoting the universal ratification and effective implementation of core international conventions. The SRSG makes use of mutually supportive strategies, including the contribution to strategic meetings at the international, regional and national levels, the identification of good practices and experience across regions, sectors and settings; the organization of field missions; and the promotion of thematic studies and reports. While all the 17 Sustainable Development Goals are key to end Violence Against Children there is an important focus of this programme in SDG 16. Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.As an active OSRSG – VAC team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and highquality support rendered to OSRSG -VAC and its beneficiaries, the Contractor will contribute towards improving children's participation in decision making processes; develop good relationships and conduct effective advocacy with partners supporting children's participation; establish, maintain and expand contact with a variety of stakeholders; support in the organization of country visits and preparation of reports and speeches with regard to children's rights awareness and training programmes relevant to the efforts to end violence against children, apply Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective systematically , integrate and document in all activities throughout the assignment; Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Chief of Staff, the Contractor will contribute to the following tasks: •Support the office in its collaboration with Partners for the creation and dissemination of the Market Place for Knowledge Sharing announced during the First Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children. •Specific support to strengthen strategic children's participation work, including efforts related to collecting evidence, identifying new organizations and actions placing children at the center with special focus on children in vulnerable situations. •Keep abreast of and contribute to the development and dissemination of evidence and research on violence against children, including lessons learnt and promising practices to promote progress in children's protection from violence, and use of quantitative and qualitative data, research and evidence to support global advocacy for the protection of children from violence. •Contribute to the development of advocacy materials to raise awareness on violence against children and strengthen children's protection within and across regions. •Support to the process of global implementation and review of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda in relation to the targets of the Sustainable Development Goals related to ending all forms of violence against children. •Contribute to the development of SRSG reports and thematic studies, and advocacy initiatives, as well as to support field missions and country visits of the SRSG-VAC. •Other related functions as required.

Qualifications/special skills

A first-level university degree in combination with six months of relevant qualifying experience in International Development, Law, Political Science, International Relations or any other discipline relevant to human rights. -Strong analytical and research skills, with experience conducting literature reviews and synthesizing information. -Excellent writing and communication skills, with the ability to develop clear and concise documents and presentations. -Excellent knowledge of international human rights instruments and tools for the promotion and protection of children's rights is required. -Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment

Languages

Fluency English and French. Another UN language is an asset.
