Duties
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including wound evaluation, vital signs, and medical history review, to develop personalized treatment plans.
- Perform advanced wound care procedures such as debridement, dressing changes, and application of specialized therapies like dermal fillers and botulinum toxin treatments.
- Manage complex cases involving diabetic foot ulcers, pressure injuries, surgical wounds, and infectious wounds with evidence-based interventions.
- Collaborate with physicians, physical therapists, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate multidisciplinary care strategies.
- Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or eClinicalWorks for accurate documentation of patient encounters, treatment plans, and progress notes.
- Educate patients and their families on wound prevention, care techniques, and lifestyle modifications to promote healing and prevent recurrence.
- Stay current with advancements in wound management techniques, including telehealth modalities and infection control protocols, ensuring best practices are implemented.
Experience
- Valid Nurse Practitioner license with certification in wound care or related specialty preferred; active state licensure required.
- Proven clinical experience in wound management within hospital settings such as Level I Trauma Centers or critical care units.
- Hands-on experience performing procedures like suturing, catheterization, IV infusion, and sterile technique application.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems including Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth for efficient documentation and patient tracking.
- Background working across diverse environments such as outpatient clinics, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, or home care services.
- Knowledge of CPT coding for billing purposes related to wound treatments and procedures; understanding of ICD coding standards is a plus.
- Experience managing complex cases involving acute pain management, infectious disease care, or hospice & palliative medicine is advantageous.
