Job Overview:
The Family Support Specialist plays a key role in supporting participants on their journey to becoming nurturing fathers. As the curriculum leader, this role organizes and facilitates the workshop series, engaging fathers through a wide range of inspiring and challenging conversations and activities. The facilitator also provides orientation sessions and participates in supplementary program activities such as Dad & Me, MENtor groups, and community outreach and enrollment efforts. The Family Support Specialist is a passionate advocate for fathers, creates a safe and open space for fathers to find support, and strengthens participants’ leadership capacities. This is a grant funded position.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Implement the Nurturing Fathers curriculum with fidelity while ensuring that Skagit County fathers and their cultural needs are met (training provided).
- Lead weekly curriculum sessions and necessary follow-up with a co-facilitator.
- Facilitate discussions using strength-based, trauma-informed methods.
- Build continuity with dads through planning and leading additional program activities.
- Represent the fatherhood program through participation in community outreach and enrollment events.
- Participate in quality improvement processes through curriculum feedback and assessment activities, on-going curriculum debriefing, program CQI activities, and soliciting feedback from referral partners.
- Other duties that help drive our mission and abide by our organization’s core values.
Qualifications:
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, or related field.
- Five years’ experience working with fathers or families in a peer or professional role.
- Experience and skills in group facilitation.
- Understands trauma-informed methods and takes a strength-based approach.
- Washington State Patrol Criminal Background Screening (or similar agency) is required (prior criminal history does not necessarily preclude employment).
- Proficiency in both English and Spanish is an asset for this role.
Work Conditions:
- General office environment and community functions.
- Performing duties in the evenings regularly and/or weekend workshop series are required
- Participation in the Nurturing Fathers facilitator training (provided) and other required program training courses. Out-of-state travel for annual meeting required.
Required Physical Abilities:
- Must be able to bend, stoop, reach, stand, and/or move from one area of the building to another on a regular basis.
- Physical dexterity needed to operate a computer keyboard and handle paper documents.
- May be required to lift up to 25 pounds on occasion.
