Production Planner- Ames

POSITION SUMMARY: 

• Responsible for analyzing, planning, coordinating, and managing the production schedule and utilization to meet customer requirements and operational KPI’s; proactively resolving constraints relating to bottlenecks, production capacity and material availability  
• Complete daily release of job travelers and supporting documents to production floor 
• Collaborate with Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Sales, Engineering, Quality and Administrative departments to forecast, determine requirements, and schedule production orders while ensuring optimal product and material management 
• Other projects and duties as assigned by Sr. Production Planner Scheduler. 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:  

This position reports directly to the Sr. Production Planner Scheduler.  

Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES RESPONSIBILITIES AND MEASUREMENTS OF PERFORMANCE: 

• Follow rules and processes as outlined in the Employee Handbook and Safety and Quality Manuals as to conduct and performance standards expected of all employees.

• Use multiple computer systems including ERP and Microsoft Suite systems to perform scheduling transactions, adjustments and monitor product flow.  
• Analyze daily production plans to determine production requirements. Manually release and consolidate jobs when appropriate 
• Maintain ERP parameters for manufactured parts 
• Generate, release and distribute job travelers to meet customer requirements and operational KPI’s. 
• Monitor production workload and resource utilization to identify key constraint areas and work with Production Supervisors to eliminate bottlenecks. 
• Effectively communicate priorities (expedites, new jobs, etc.) with key personnel and multiple departments for on time customer orders. 
• Collaborate with Customer Service, Sales and Marketing and Operations regarding order priorities including prototype orders, machine breakdowns and customer request dates that don’t align with ERP promise dates. 
• Review sales history and sales forecasts to ensure lot size optimization for finished goods at appropriate levels and manage customer stocking agreements.  
• Collaborate with Buyer regarding product demand history and sales forecast to establish appropriate inventory levels to optimize lot size and safety stock levels. 
• Assist with training others on ERP systems and processes. 
• Work with manufacturing to identify, recommend, and implement improvement opportunities and processes that achieve quality and on time deliver goals. 
• Assist with root cause analysis to identify discrepancies in on hand inventory, fabricated stock, and finished goods variances and present recommendations to SCM in a timely manner. 
• Manage monthly material forecasts and adjust as needed to facilitate on time customer orders while achieving company inventory goals. 
• Maintain professional and collaborative business relationships with visitors, suppliers, customers, and employees 
• Promote a positive working atmosphere and interdepartmental communication 
• Maintain an organized, tidy work area and clean equipment  
• Demonstrate physical, regular, and punctual attendance and communicate scheduled and unscheduled absences in advance  
• Complete tasks and projects accurately, timely and within budget and priority guidelines 
• Follow through and communicate questions, project information and status  
• Demonstrate collaborative working relationships, good judgment, reasoning and professional conduct in all business interactions with employees at all levels of the organization 
• Complete performance reviews of direct report(s) 
• Serve as backup for Supply Chain Technician as needed 
• Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor appropriate for the position and situation 
• Performs other duties as directed by the Supply Chain Manager
