Title: Heavy Equipment Manager

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Manager to oversee and manage our fleet operations for a growing site development and underground utilities contractor. This role is responsible for supervising shop mechanics, coordinating equipment maintenance and repairs, managing fleet performance, and ensuring maximum uptime across all projects.
The ideal candidate has strong mechanical knowledge, leadership experience, and a proactive approach to fleet management in a fast-paced civil construction environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and lead a team of shop and field mechanics
- Schedule and oversee preventative maintenance and repairs for heavy equipment fleet
- Coordinate equipment repairs to minimize downtime and support project schedules
- Manage equipment inspections and ensure compliance with safety standards
- Track and maintain service records, maintenance logs, and repair history
- Oversee equipment diagnostics and major repairs
- Coordinate with project managers and superintendents to allocate equipment efficiently
- Assist with budgeting, parts procurement, and vendor management
- Evaluate equipment performance and provide recommendations for repair, rebuild, or replacement
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused shop environment

Qualifications
- 7 years of heavy equipment experience in civil/site construction
- 3 years of leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills (diesel, hydraulic, electrical systems)
- Experience managing preventative maintenance programs
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Familiarity with fleet tracking or maintenance software is a plus
- Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred but not required)
