Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines and heavy equipment. This role requires a strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. The Diesel Mechanic will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a variety of vehicles and machinery, ensuring they operate efficiently and safely.
Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic tests on diesel engines and heavy equipment to identify issues.
- Conduct routine maintenance on vehicles, including oil changes, brake repairs, and tire service.
- Repair and replace components such as transmissions, air brakes, hydraulics, and suspension systems.
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment for repairs and fabrication tasks.
- Interpret schematics and technical manuals to troubleshoot mechanical problems.
- Operate heavy machinery such as excavators, cranes, and forklifts safely.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs performed and parts used.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations while working in the shop or field.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Diesel Mechanic or in a similar role within automotive repair or heavy equipment maintenance.
- Strong mechanical knowledge of diesel engines, automotive diagnostics, and vehicle maintenance practices.
- Familiarity with various garbage truck bodies and hydraulic systems is preferred.
- Experience with fabrication techniques and welding is a plus.
- Ability to lift heavy objects safely (up to 50 pounds).
- Proficient in using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail in all tasks performed.
- Strong communication skills
