Recreational Specialist
United Disability Services is a not-for-profit agency serving Summit County and surrounding areas. At UDS, our mission is to provide and support inclusive, life-enriching options through person-centered programs and advocacy.
We are seeking a qualified and motivated Recreational Specialist to coordinate, implement, and actively participate in recreational activities for individuals served through the All-Star Training Club. This position works collaboratively with consumers, families, volunteers, coaches, and agency staff to support participation in sports, recreation, and community-based programming. This is a part-time non-exempt position. 20 hours a week. Evening and weekend work based on scheduled season of sports.
Position Summary
The Recreational Specialist is responsible for facilitating sports sessions, providing supervision and guidance to athletes, completing required documentation and coordinating local and state Special Olympics activities. This position also supports transportation needs to some events.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Facilitate and participate in sports sessions as a coach and support athletes
- Complete required documentation by sport for data collection, billing and compliance.
- Function as a program liaison for families, athletes and community for participation and promotion of services.
- Assist with the coordination, implementation, and participation in local and state Special Olympics activities, including travel within Ohio
- Complete and maintain required certifications, including DODD waiver certification, CPR/First Aid, and transportation driver training
- Safely operate agency vehicles and provide appropriate passenger assistance
- Update and maintain consumer records
- Attend agency meetings, in-service sessions, and required trainings
- Ensure compliance with accreditation standards, applicable funder requirements, agency policies, and procedures
- Uphold the Agency’s mission and core values
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma/GED
- Experience working with adults with disabilities preferred
- Knowledge of various sports and coaching strategies.
Requirements
- Strong communication, organization, and time management skills
- Ability to work well with diverse individuals, including adults with disabilities
- Evening and weekend availability required
- Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and eligibility to drive under agency insurance
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including standing/walking for extended periods and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Must pass required pre-employment screenings
