Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited dental assistant training program.
- Certification as a Dental Assistant (CDA) or equivalent, as required by state regulations.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Experience or demonstrated ability to work effectively with children in a healthcare setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience specifically in pediatric dental assisting.
- Knowledge of pediatric dental terminology and procedures.
- Familiarity with dental practice management software.
- Additional certifications such as Radiology Certification, Coronal Polishing and Sealant Placement, EFDA.
- Strong communication skills tailored to interacting with children and their families.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and sterilize dental instruments and equipment before and after procedures to maintain a hygienic environment.
- Assist the pediatric dentist during examinations and treatments by handing instruments, suctioning, and ensuring patient comfort.
- Manage patient records, including updating medical histories and accurately documenting treatment details.
- Educate young patients and their caregivers on proper oral hygiene techniques and post-treatment care instructions.
- Maintain a child-friendly environment by engaging with patients gently and reassuringly to reduce anxiety.
- Schedule patient appointments and coordinate with other staff to ensure smooth office operations.
- Monitor and maintain inventory of dental supplies, ordering materials as needed to avoid shortages.
