Field Engineering Representative I- Granbury

United Cooperative Services has an opening for the position of Field Engineering Representative I in the Granbury System Engineering Department.

Candidate should have a stable, verifiable work history, with an acceptable MVR. A pre-employment drug and alcohol screen is required. This is a career job with progressive pay and an outstanding benefit package. This non-exempt position starts at $33.34 per hour. Positions are open until filled. This position reads electric meters and records volume used by residential and commercial consumers. Performs staking duties under supervision.

Major Responsibilities

• Inspects meters and connections for defects, damage, and unauthorized connections.
• Verifies readings to locate abnormal consumption and records reasons for fluctuations. Performs meter exchanges as needed.
• Turns service off for nonpayment of charges in vacant premises, or on for new occupants.
• Assumes responsibility for grid locations.
• Collects bills in arrears.
• Keeps track of material accounting.
• Designs and stakes area lights and single phase line extensions.
• Will input data into computer to create jobs, material lists, maps, cost estimates, and update staked jobs and service upgrades.
• Designs and stakes three phase line extensions and work plan projects with assistance.
• Performs GPS and laser staking without assistance.
• Adhere to and encourage safety policies and procedures and be actively involved in continuously assessing safety policies to ensure their content and/or effectiveness are consistently the top priority at the cooperative.
• Coordinates and facilitates the building of work released for construction with Operations and Contractors
• Meets with membership to design or redesign new and existing electric service
• Performs simple cost estimates for membership and applies aid-to-construction according to policy
• Obtains easements as required for staking and building of lines.
• Assist operations during inclement weather.

EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS

• Consumer-Members - Courteously answer member inquiries and, if unable to do so, directs them to the appropriate person, making every effort to increase their understanding and acceptance of the Cooperative's plans, policies and programs.
• Other Utilities: Coordinates work that has to be done on joint use contract or by agreements.
• Developers: Discusses their construction schedules and power requirements. Assists or secures agreements for easements.
• City and County Officials: Seeks information concerning existing or new laws governing connection of power services.
• Internal Contractors: Spots all service entrances for consumers, prepares layouts for contractors building in underground subdivisions, and informs them of the Cooperative’s policies to determine equipment to be furnished by the Cooperative and by the consumer.
  
  

Position Requirements

Job Knowledge, Training and Experience: Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Must acquire within a reasonable time span knowledge of appropriate cooperative safety rules and regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to their respective job assignments. Safety rules and regulations are detailed in the American Public Power Association Safety manual and the National Electric Safety Code. Must acquire knowledge and understanding of the Partner Staking software computer program and navigation of the Daffron iXP programs in relation to job duties.

Equipment Operated: Must have a current Texas driver’s license without violations that would prohibit insurability. Must be able to operate office equipment, personal computers, related software and telecommunications equipment. Must be able to operate long stick to close fused cut-outs as needed to connect and disconnect electric service.

Abilities and Skills: Must be able to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Required to write simple correspondence. Must be able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations. Must be able to calculate discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Required to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Requires ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written and oral instructions and to solve problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized conditions.

Physical Effort: Must be able to perform all activities listed in the job description with or without reasonable accommodation. This position is frequently required to stand, sit, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions: This position is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and high, precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
